Mentor’s note on Why “Beginning” has been chosen for Cinematographic Study
When I saw the film what struck me was the decision of the filmmaker to go with predominantly static shots and long takes in the film. The film is unsettling and one can feel a lot of unrest even in the static shots and the slightly longish composition gives the viewer the expectation of wanting to know more . One can feel the emptiness in the way the frames have been composed . I felt this film would be worth studying in detail for its compositional approach in conjunction with the narrative and filmmaker’s intent .
