Reviews about Rafey Mahmood's Cinematography
Pagglait Cinematography Reviews
“Rafey Mahmood’s cinematography is simple, yet appealing and couples with Bist’s talented eye for direction very well. The film often presents beautiful serene imagery which captures the natural beauty of the country, such as a blood red sun setting presented through fast motion photography or simple shots of the local food delicacies. There is also good use of slow motion which emphasise the nuanced quality of the movie and represents the turbulent emotions of the family’s grief and confusion well.”
“Pagglait is a thoroughly entertaining watch and an affectionately handled film, bolstered by charming performances, immersive cinematography and a captivating screenplay. This film definitely deserves more attention!”
- Emily Davison, UK Film Review
“Pagglait's power lies in its dialogues and camera work. Cinematographer Rafey Mehmood captures the Ganga ghat in all its beauty and complexity, giving meaning to the film's dialogues written by Umesh Bist. The one scene where Astik's family members perform puja at the Ganga ghat while Sandhya eats golgappas particularly stands out. The editing of the film is also on point. The scene shifts from one location to another seamlessly.”

‘Rafey Mahmood’s cinematography is real and intimate and makes you relive the lanes and bylanes of Purani Dilli. The shots in itself are quirky, although cozy, and yet very picturesque. The look and feel that Rafey brings to the film is that of the late 80’s and early 90’s. Most of the shots are taken in real life locations. Prateek Sur, bollywoodlife.com

Bioscopewala, Director Deb Medhekar.
The well-crafted film is wonderfully served by a fine cast and its cinematographer Rafey Mahmood, whose lighting and angles imbue the frames with dynamism and an air of immediacy as two individuals, separated by geography, social moorings and age, seek desperately to reconnect with emotions that once defined their deep bond but have inevitably faded with time. - Saibal Chaterjee, NDTV
A sizable portion of the film’s aesthetic astuteness is attributable to Rafey Mehmood’s cinematography. Mehmood makes every frame a vista of reined-in emotions. There is certain restrain and temperance in the storytelling, rarely seen in films about human relationships. - Bussiness Standard
