The Taiwanese Cinema industry underwent a transformation in the 1980s in response to the burgeoning popularity of Hong Kong cinema. A New Wave of directors emerged who made socially conscious art house & popular films which placed an unflinching eye on Taiwanese society and culture, and successfully put Taiwanese cinema on the World map.
In Cinematic Exploration of Taiwanese New Wave Cinema we would be introducing Taiwanese New Wave Cinema and exploring the films of Hou Hsaio - Hsien , Edward Yang and Tsai Ming - Liang. In the process we would be doing a comparative study of these filmmakers , analyse key scenes in their films to understand its visual language , Imaging context , Lighting & key stylistic approaches taken by the Filmmaker & Cinematographer
